Upscaling 100-Year-Old Family Photos with AI

A step-by-step walkthrough of restoring and upscaling a 1920s family portrait using only ROOK.oi tools.

Start with a clean scan

Scan at the highest DPI your scanner supports. The better the input, the better the output.

Restore first, upscale second

Run the AI Photo Enhancer in Restore mode before upscaling. Fixing damage at low res is faster and safer.

Upscale with care

2x is usually plenty for prints. 4x is great for archival or large display.

Final colour pass

Drop the result into any free colour tool to subtly warm and balance — the look will feel both modern and historic.
